“10-4 Breaker, Breaker’… ‘We got Bears In The Air and Beavers Between The Sheets’… Across the 1960s and 1970s, Truck Drivers became the unlikely heroes of the American Dream: mythologized, idolised and lionized in song and on screen. It was estimated, at the time, that more than 2 million ‘Knights of the Highway’ were ‘burning bitumen’ at any given time of the day or night – carting the goods, fuels and resources that kept the wheels of U.S. Consumer Society turning. Presented here for the very first time are 16 of the very best Trucker Anthems and Long-Haul Laments ever committed to shellac: Existential Road Hog Odes, Amphetamine Rockabilly Rants and tremulous Truck Stop Succubi Temptations. Years in the making – ‘Diesel Smoke And Dangerous Curves: Big Rig Bustin’ Hits’ features a gear box stuffed full of Pinballing, Cop Dodging, Jack Knifing and Double Clutching. Demonic Drivers, Spectral Hitchhikers, Tailgating Tearjerkers and rampant Substance Abuse. Moments of Gas Guzzling Pathos and delirious White Line Fever. Indeed, ‘The White Line was the Life-Line of The Nation’ as Truck Stop Monkeys and Overnight Freight Freaks pumped blood through the Body Mechanic and Nashville celebrated/exploited these high-balling ‘Heroes of the Highways.’ ‘Smokey’s on our Tail’… So, Put The Hammer Down, The Pedal To The Metal and come join The Convoy In The Sky.
