In the frozen depths of Finland’s iciest lakes,… and Oceans emerged, fusing symphonic black metal with avant-garde twists and splashes of industrial chaos. For decades, they’ve been the torchbearers of a genre that defies boundaries-constantly reinventing their sound with each new album. Their latest full-length, “The Regeneration Itinerary,” is a transcendent expedition into the duality of light and dark. Recorded in the halls of SoundSpiral Audio and mixed to perfection at Necromorbus Studio, this album weaves a tale as old as time yet refreshingly modern. With tracks like the ethereal, techno-laden “Inertiae” and the haunting “Frnyelse i Tre Akter,” Mathias Lillmns’ lyrical prowess unfurls across Timo Kontio’s and Antti Simonen’s masterful compositions, each note dripping with existential ponderings and razor-sharp riffs. Imagine being embraced by a Siberian storm while contemplating the cosmos-that’s the electrifying impact these songs deliver. A standout, “Prophetical Mercury Implement,” offers a fervent glimpse into their musicianship, promising an aural journey that’s as profound as it is raw. From the melodic “I am Coin, I am Two” to the relentless drive of “The Fire in Which We Burn,” this itinerary navigates the delicate balance where shadows kiss the dawn.
